Some Medical Reasons to Drink Beer

By: J. Morgan

If you took a survey and asked random people what their favorite beverage is, a large percentage of them would answer beer. Beer is one of the most popular beverages around and can be enjoyed at home, in bars, and even in many restaurants. It is a great way to socialize and get to know other people better, but did you know that beer can also be good for you? You have probably often heard that drinking beer is bad for your health, but if beer-drinking is done in moderation, this is not the case.

In fact, through the years, there have been many studies done that have proven beer can actually be good for you if you drink it in moderation. (Heavy drinking can cause serious medical conditions that you will want to avoid, so make sure you don’t get carried away.)

Medical reasons to drink beer:

  • Overall Good Health: Studies show that people who drink beer tend to have better overall health than those who do not.

  • Hypertension: Hypertension is a condition that affects millions of people, but studies show that drinking a moderate amount of alcohol can reduce the effects of hypertension.

  • Diabetes: People who suffer with diabetes run a big risk of heart disease. Studies indicate that drinking very light amounts of beer may help to reduce these risks.

  • Mental Functions: Research shows that drinking beer in moderation can help to improve brain function.

  • Bone /loss: Some studies show that beer can prevent bone loss in young men and women, provided it is done in moderation.

  • Blood Clots: It is believed that drinking in moderation can help to reduce blood clots from forming, which, in turn, reduces the risk of having strokes.

Aside from these medical reasons for drinking beer, many people believe that it helps them relax and sleep better at night. Beer contains lots of minerals, vitamins, and even antioxidants that can help reduce the aging process and improve your general health. There are many people who drink one or two beers a day without having any bad side-effects from doing so.

Keep in mind that the medical reasons to drink beer above are based on light to moderate consumption of alcohol. Drinking heavily can actually increase your risk of these conditions and cause other serious problems, such as liver disease and high blood pressure. Make sure that when you drink, you always do so responsibly, and never drive after consuming alcohol.
