Beer Brewing Company Devils Backbone Is A Big Hit
By: J.Morghan
ROSELAND, Va. – Beer brewing company, Devils Backbone, located in the Blue Ridge Mountains strongly resembles a ski lodge.
But, this is only until you see the voluminous beer making medals enclosed in frames covering the walls. Floor manager, Chad Williams says that “Our beer is what sets us apart.”
They first opened their doors in Nov 2008 and since that time they have won more awards than any other beer brewing company in Virigina. In 2010 it claimed its highest award by the Brewers Association World Beer Cup located in Chicago.
In addition, they have also received nine awards in Denver from the Great American Beer Festival, which is more than any other beer brewing company in the state.
One of their biggest sellers is the Gold Leaf Lager, which has also garnered awards not once, but twice.
They have 11 on tap beers, with four of them available year round, six seasonal beers and a “mystery beer.” Currently, the mystery beer is a beverage brewed from hops grown in Virginia.
Although beer is its main commodity, their food is also well-known.
Manager Williams is in charge of the restaurant operations, and notes that their grilled food is always popular with their customers, in particular, the ribs. They change the menu around three times yearly, but one entree that is found year round is Rob's Bonedipper, which is a smoked beef brisket sandwich. It is one of Devils most renouned dishes.
Owner Steve Crandall opened the beer brewing company after he was inspired on a trip to Europe.
